Tsukiji Fish Market

The Tsukiji fish market is the largest seafood market in Japan and one of the biggest in the world. Fishing boats from all over the world arrive overnight via Tokyo Bay, and their catches are auctioned off before dawn. Auction buyers set up stalls in the large market building, where their seafood is bought by restaurants and wholesalers. At 9am, tourists like us are let in to freely roam the place. We saw sea creatures we'd never heard of before, enormous frozen tuna being cut with tables saws, and tons of styrofoam used for shipping the fish.

  1. Interesting. Ever see that show on TV about the guys that catch those tuna off Cape Cod area? Depending on the size and quality of the fish, they can make thousands of dollars on one fish! Now I know where they end up. Looks cold in there.
